Whereas the lighthouses all were built during the British colonial era take you to some mystical adventurous ship voyage of exploring new lands, exotic stiff and shipwrecks.

This tour itinerary is planned for those who are interested to experience the significant colonial heritage of the forts, fortifications, and lighthouses in western and northern parts of Sri Lanka where heavy colonial influences can be seen.  The most significant of this tour is that you can experience real-time living and sleep within an actual cell at Fort Hammenhiel which was home to a garrison of soldiers during the Portuguese and Dutch period and converted to a prison during the British period.

  • At the arrival lounge of Colombo Airport, you will be received by your chauffeur guide who will take care of you for the next 7 Days and transfer you to Kalpitiya – approximately 2 and half hours’ drive
  • Check in to the hotel and relax for a few hours. 
  • Afterward, visit to explore Kalpitiya Fort. Portuguese built a Jesuits Chapel at Kalpitiya in 1544 and established a small garrison to defend it. Then the Dutch was built five-bastion Fort in 1667. The Jesuits Chaple still inside the fort.
  • Then you can try Kitesurfing, Scuba Diving or Snorkelling. Kalpitiya beach is ideal for all these activities.

  • Overnight stay and dinner at the Fort Hammenhiel Resort in Karainagar.
  • Fort Hammenhiel is a fort firstly built by the Portuguese around the small islands between the islands of Kayts and Karaitivu of the Jaffna Peninsula. Then the Dutch rebuilt the fort in 1680 and maintained a garrison of about thirty soldiers. The British used this fort as a maximum-security prison. Today it is a Tourist Resort where you can experience real-time living and sleep within an actual prison cell.

  • Kankesanthurai Lighthouse (Lighthouse KKS) was built in 1893 whereas Kovilan Point Lighthouse built in 1916 which is near to the famous Casuarina Beach in Karainagar considered to be the best beach in Jaffna peninsula.
  • Then visit to explore Jaffna Fort. Approximately 30min. drive from Karainagar.
  • As usual Jaffna fort also firstly built by the Portuguese in 1618. Then it was expanded by the Dutch in 1658.
  • Bicycle is one of the main modes of transport in Jaffna. To explore the Jaffna culture cycling is the best option. The cycling tour in Jaffna will start at around 2.30 pm. You will be able to explore Jaffna library, Supramaniyam Park, Old Park, Coastal villages, Rio ice cream, Nallur temple, St James church, St Mary's Cathedral, Buddhist Pagoda, a statue of the last king of Jaffna kingdom, Arc of last kingdom's palace, last king's minister house, Jaffna market, and archeological Museum. Tour will end up around 18.30 pm

  • Visit a full-day tour at Delft Island. Transfer you to Kurikkaduwan Jetty, a 1 and half hours drive from the hotel where the ferry service starts to Delft Island. 
  • Delft Island is about 35 Km away from Jaffna mainland. The roots of Portuguese and Dutch occupancy on the island are more prominent.  The Fort, Hospital, Castle, Horse breeding centre, and Pigeon houses with a stone cote are among the archaeological remains of the colonial period.  
  • Part of the Island was nominated as Delft Island National Park. There are about 450 wild ponies, believed to descend from horses kept on the island from the time of Portuguese occupancy are significant in this National Park.
  • The Van was arranged at the island for an Island tour. Picnic breakfast and lunch will be served. The return ferry started at 2.30 pm from the island.
