    Sri Lanka is a wonder for nature lovers. Some nature creations in Sri Lanka are hard to believe that they actually exist.

    Sri Lanka is one of the few countries where one can observe many different ecosystems and species within a short distance. Sri Lanka has an abundance of exotic and varied natural riches and long tradition conservation routed in its ancient Buddhist traditions which teach kindness and compassion to all its living creatures.

    The central mountain region the most picturesque area of Sri Lanka is surrounded by a plain, rising above the sea level up to about 300m. It is characterized by residual isolated mountains and rocks.

    The core area of the central mountains is a complex of peaks, ridges, plateaus, basins, valleys, and escarpments. The central mountain region is preserved as forests. Those ecologically important areas are the starting points of many rivers in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka has 103 such distinct natural river basins.

    Many rivers in the country descend over steep cliffs forming an abundance of waterfalls and creating nature's most spectacular and fascinating sights.

    Sri Lanka, Western Ghats biological hotspot, with its unique assemblages of plants and animal communities, is the most recent member of 25 global hotspots. Sri Lanka is a significant centre of endemism with its own characteristics.
