Fort Hammenhiel

Fort Hammenhiel

Fort Hammenhiel was firstly built by the Portuguese around the small island between the islands of Kayts and Karaitivu of the Jaffna Peninsula. Then the Dutch rebuilt the fort in 1680 and maintained a garrison of about thirty soldiers. The British used this fort as a high-security prison. Today it is a Tourist Resort where you can experience real-time living and sleep within an actual cell.
