Mihintale
- Mihintale is a rock mountain peak located 16 km east of Anuradhapura. It was considered as the meeting point of the Buddhist delegation headed by Arhat Mahinda and King Devanampiyatissa, which marks the introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka. King Devanampiyatissa has converted this mountain peak and the surrounding caves into a Buddhist monastery. It was grown as one of the main monasteries in ancient Sri Lanka with the patronage of Sinhalese kings.
Today it is one of the most important archaeological sites in Sri Lanka with ancient stupas, hospitals, refectory, ponds, caves, and many more ruins. Climbing Mihintale rock is an interesting activity. At the top of the rock, you will be able to see a magnificent view of the surroundings.
