    Mulkirigala temple is located 20 km away from Tangalle. It is a rock temple with 7 caves in different altitudes up to 206 m. This was built in the 3rd century AD and the present Buddha images and paintings were belong to the Kandyan Period. The well-preserved sculptures and paintings depicting Jataka stories and the life of Lord Buddha are a masterwork of the Kandyan era's southern tradition Sri Lankan art.
