Dondra head lighthouse

    Dondra lighthouse is situated at the Southernmost tip of a rocky promontory near Dondra town. It was commissioned in March 1890. Dondra head lighthouse stands 54 m tall, the tallest in Sri Lanka and one of the tallest in South East Asia. The granite stones used to build the striking white octagonal tower were brought from the quarries of Scotland and Cornwall.

    A magnificent 360-degree view of the indigo seas with the glistening beach and rows of coconut trees can be seen from atop the lighthouse.
